no internet in airbnb, coworking spaces not open on a MONDAY?

i went to lisbon in 2023 with my family thinking i could work remotely since so many digital nomads highly recommended it. also in no small part because I was influenced by pieter levels himself.

our airbnb that SPECIFICALLY ADVERTISES having a good desk space for “working” and internet did NOT have reliable internet. it was a tiny internet device that would drop off every 5 minutes - a US phone hotspot would have worked better. sending an email was only possible when you got lucky, and zoom calls were impossible. when we complained to airbnb and our landlord that the internet didn’t work they just gaslit us and said “it works and previous guests didn’t complain” repeatedly until we gave up.

so i went out hunting for coworking spaces thinking f it i will just pay money to access internet it cant be that hard. Tell me why I went to 2 different “coworking” spaces on a MONDAY MORNING and both of them were closed and no one picks up the phone when I call? INSANE.

what finally saved my butt was outsite coliving workspace. I think i had to pay 15 euros per day but it came with a free drink so it was well worth it. but holy crap did I realize portuguese local companies were untrustworthy and unreliable AF. at the end I had the idea of searching for AMERICAN companies operating in portugal, which is when I discovered outsite. Portugal is fun for tourism - but how do any professionals get any work done in this country???
